Single Camera Production

Single Camera Production

Evaluation

This was a short edit I did on single camera production; I added music and changed the scenes by adding in transitions and other effects. I think that this video I have done is to be honest, not that great at all. The reason for this is because the filming we did felt quite unfinished and we didn’t really have an ending to the actual story we started so it got quite complicated to actually edit, so therefore I feel that there is no story as it lacks understanding of what is really happening. From what we see of the clip we know that the story generally does seem like it could have been a thriller trailer or a thriller movie because of the way the character is looking and walking. I like how it seems quite mysterious. I also really like how in the short edit I have also shown the characters view, in terms of how the character sees the view in front of him, I like that because it gives a different but yet effective feel because it’s not much seen as when watching films and shows we always see the characters views rather than their actual view. I like how that the particular part is quite shaky as it shows that the characters views are quite hazy.
The music which is in this short edit is quite good as it goes very well with the clips in general as the music goes with the scenes as its quite mysterious.

The filming however as a whole is quite good as single camera seems to be more real to the audience and I think it's a good way to show the eerie atmosphere to the audience because of the effect it gives off.

Evaluation

The purpose of the production was to show a short story about a stalker using single camera techniques.

In this short production and edit I made sure that I used a range of single camera techniques and this means that with every shot I set the camera up differently so I would get varied different shots that will look individual as well as unique. The various shots and camera angles are all taken from the same camera which was a Canon. The camera shots and angles I have used are varied too and they are low angles, high angles, eye level shots, long, medium, close shots, point of view shots and straight view shots. This was  because I wanted the edit to look interesting as well as different because the angles will then want people more interested into watching the production and it would make it even more interesting for me to edit.

The production process in terms of doing the filming beforehand went quite well because as a group we made sure we had the camera fully charged as well as the tripods all set and we made sure we had characters in the scenes and knew where we were shooting, some of the characters did not turn up which was a bit of a let down in some of the scenes so we were quite limited in terms of what we were filming. The way I worked in the process of this production was good because I felt I was quite consistent in terms of knowing what kind of shots I needed and I made sure that the group as well were okay with what I wanted to achieve and I made sure I asked for input to see if they agreed with the views I had for the scenes.
The product I believe is good for an audience who are interested in the field of thriller. I think it would be great for ages 15+. The end product does meet the expectations because I did want the production to be a thriller type so I guess that is one successful thing that I can actually say about it.

The technical quality of the production in terms of the visual quality is satisfactory  because the day I did the filming was quite cloudy which meant that it went well with the  idea of a thriller because the mood of the weather set it quite well. In this production I used a song which I thought was quite good aswell due to the fact that story is a thriller so therefore the song is also good with this video as the words go with the way the scenes run through. If I didn't use the song I honestly believe the clip wouldn't be great at all and it would be boring to watch which means that the music will keep the audience watching more intrigued.

This production as a whole could do with a lot of improvements. The main improvement is to actually have an ending to this story which actually finishes of smoothly within the scenes because at this point it has just ended very flat and that’s not good as it was suppose to make sense, this short clip could only work for a trailer but not for a story as it doesn't have a conclusion. Its too much of a cliff hanger and it doesn't really give you a good concept in terms of what the movie is about and there is not really a understanding.

I would make sure that next time if I was to do this I would make a storyboard beforehand as well as do as much research in terms of how to leave a movie on a good cliffhanger because I believe this one is quite poor and is not great at all. The issue was because we didn't think it was quite thought out beforehand and that's why I ended up with an untold story. I would also make sure that I film a lot of shots of the same scenes as well as different scenes too because then in the editing process I can add and cut as well as paste and rearrange clips which will make the production very successful and much better to watch.

My end product, to be honest is not great and the reason for this is because the ending of this edit  doesn't really finish well and there's not really a story or a flow that goes well, to be honest there is no story and there is not really a smooth finish off so this can confuse people a lot. The reason for why it is like this is because I didn't have enough shots which meant the story that we wanted to create got incomplete in the process of filming. Next time I would make sure that I will think clearly and carefully about what I actually want my story to be about.
