Art of Flirting
This was a documentary we filmed and edited about peoples views and opinions on online dating and what they thought would be best to either date online or go out there and find your partner.
The Art of Flirting – online dating documentary
This video is
a short documentary which is around 7mins long which reveals opinions and facts
about online dating as a whole and I think that this documentary is quite good
and has turned out quite well considering the choices of clips that have been
used. The fact that we used cartoon clips and clips from films, series and
songs in the film shows a good standard of a range of video clips in terms of
the variety we have in the film.
The audio in
this short online dating documentary film as a whole in general isn’t that
great to be honest as we have a lot for noisy areas so this has lead to a lot
of background noise and sometimes this seems to be quite distracting as it
takes the attention away from some of the scenes which we should be looking at.
This happened like that as we filmed in the day in college and at that time it
was quite busy to prevent us from getting the back ground noise the best thing
we could have done in this situation was to try and film at a time where there
was not a lot of students walking or we
could have possibly done some of the recordings in the radio studio so we would
have the good quality sound as it would’ve been more quiet – but the reason for
why we didn’t want it to be in such a secluded area was because we wanted the
students to be comfortable answering there questions rather than feeling a bit
intimidated in a room with just a camera. We wanted to show a relaxed yet
informal documentary.
I feel that
the visual effects that have been used in the documentary are quite good as I
like the transitions from one clip to another and I like how we have added in
clips from songs, movies and cartoons to give a bit of a humorous atmosphere.
The quality of the video is quite good but it’s definitely quite shaky in some
scenes but I think it worked well as it’s an informal sort of relaxed
atmosphere.
Next time if I
could improve this video I would make sure that we set up the camera better in
terms of actually maybe using a tripod rather than freehand so there’s no shake
and because that’ll then give us much more clarity.
Single Camera Production
Single Camera Production
Evaluation
This was a short edit I did on single camera production; I added music and changed the
scenes by adding in transitions and other effects. I think that this video I
have done is to be honest, not that great at all. The reason for this is
because the filming we did felt quite unfinished and we didn’t really have an
ending to the actual story we started so it got quite complicated to actually
edit, so therefore I feel that there is no story as it lacks understanding of
what is really happening. From what we see of the clip we know that the story
generally does seem like it could have been a thriller trailer or a thriller
movie because of the way the character is looking and walking. I like how it
seems quite mysterious. I also really like how in the short edit I have also
shown the characters view, in terms of how the character sees the view in front
of him, I like that because it gives a different but yet effective feel because
it’s not much seen as when watching films and shows we always see the
characters views rather than their actual view. I like how that the particular
part is quite shaky as it shows that the characters views are quite hazy.
The music which is in this short edit is quite good as it goes very well with the clips in general as the music goes with the scenes as its quite mysterious.
The filming however as a whole is quite good as single camera seems to be more real to the audience and I think it's a good way to show the eerie atmosphere to the audience because of the effect it gives off.
Evaluation
The purpose
of the production was to show a short story about a stalker using single camera techniques.
In this short production and edit I made sure
that I used a range of single camera techniques and this means that with every
shot I set the camera up differently so I would get varied different shots that
will look individual as well as unique. The various shots and camera angles are
all taken from the same camera which was a Canon. The camera shots and angles I
have used are varied too and they are low angles, high angles, eye level shots,
long, medium, close shots, point of view shots and straight view shots. This
was because I wanted the edit to look
interesting as well as different because the angles will then want people more
interested into watching the production and it would make it even more
interesting for me to edit.
The
production process in terms of doing the filming beforehand went quite well
because as a group we made sure we had the camera fully charged as well as the
tripods all set and we made sure we had characters in the scenes and knew where we were shooting, some of the characters did not turn up which was a bit of a
let down in some of the scenes so we were quite limited in terms of what we
were filming. The way I worked in the process of this production was good
because I felt I was quite consistent in terms of knowing what kind of shots I
needed and I made sure that the group as well were okay with what I wanted to
achieve and I made sure I asked for input to see if they agreed with the views
I had for the scenes.
The product
I believe is good for an audience who are interested in the field of thriller. I
think it would be great for ages 15+. The end product does meet the expectations because I did want the production to be a thriller type so I guess
that is one successful thing that I can actually say about it.
The
technical quality of the production in terms of the visual quality is satisfactory
because the day I did the filming was
quite cloudy which meant that it went well with the idea of a thriller because the mood of the
weather set it quite well. In this production I used a song which I thought was quite good aswell due to the fact that story is a thriller so therefore the
song is also good with this video as the words go with the way the scenes run
through. If I didn't use the song I honestly believe the clip wouldn't be great
at all and it would be boring to watch which means that the music will keep the audience watching more intrigued.
This
production as a whole could do with a lot of improvements. The main improvement
is to actually have an ending to this story which actually finishes of smoothly
within the scenes because at this point it has just ended very flat and that’s
not good as it was suppose to make sense, this short clip could only work for a
trailer but not for a story as it doesn't have a conclusion. Its too much of a
cliff hanger and it doesn't really give you a good concept in terms of what the
movie is about and there is not really a understanding.
I would make sure that next time if I was to
do this I would make a storyboard beforehand as well as do as much research in
terms of how to leave a movie on a good cliffhanger because I believe this one
is quite poor and is not great at all. The issue was because we didn't think
it was quite thought out beforehand and that's why I ended up with an untold story. I would
also make sure that I film a lot of shots of the same scenes as well as
different scenes too because then in the editing process I can add and cut as
well as paste and rearrange clips which will make the production very
successful and much better to watch.
My end
product, to be honest is not great and the reason for this is because the ending
of this edit doesn't really finish well
and there's not really a story or a flow that goes well, to be honest there is
no story and there is not really a smooth finish off so this can confuse people
a lot. The reason for why it is like this is because I didn't have enough shots which meant the story that we wanted to create got incomplete in the process of
filming. Next time I would make sure that I will think clearly and carefully about what I actually want my story to be about.

Four Job Roles In The Media Industry
1) Journalist
2) Film/ TV Director
A journalist will seek out news and bring it to the public as quickly as possible. They aim present stories in a clear, engaging style which are very interesting to read upon. A journalist might attend press launches, courts and council meetings to get the latest information of the latest events, they will even interview people in person or either on the phone, they respond to calls and new releases as well as record notes in shorthand or on tape to write up stories on the computer.
Journalists have a lot of pressure placed upon them as they have to work through to deadlines and getting stories out on time and they must also keep their stories balanced as well as fair and lawful.
Qualifications needed to become a journalist:There are known to be at least 80,000 journalists in the UK. The main employers are local and national newspaper groups, broadcast news organisations, news agencies which supply other outlets, magazines and online news outlets which can either be independent or linked to a traditional print or broadcast operation. To become a journalist you need to have the enthusiasm as well as work experience. its a great idea to show commitment by looking for a short work placement in a newsroom and to have portfolio of published work. The main qualification which is needed to become a journalist is an NCTJ certificate but this is mainly and very necessary for if you want to get into the caret of writing for newspapers, also these qualifications are important to have too, Diploma in journalism, Diploma in Journalism for press photographers and photojournalists and National qualification in Journalism.

Example of a journalist job, magazine journalist: The magazine industry body is the PPA (Periodical Publishers’ Association) and their training arm is the PTC (Periodical Training Council) that accredits post-graduate and post A-level courses of varying lengths nationwide, the NCTJ also accredits magazine courses. These should give you the basic skills you'll need: Media law, PA (national government), news and feature writing, subbing, design and layout (a working knowledge of publishing software like In-Design) and shorthand writing.
A degree in a specific subject like History for an example will always give you a useful specialism that you can exploit by working for a magazine about that subject. Follow that with a fast-track journalism course culminating in a professionally recognised certificate (courses are usually PTC and/or NCTJ accredited) then, once employed, it’s also possible to gain a further PTC qualification on the job.
